{ Teddi & Nick’s } Wedding at Christos Catering on Wilbur Boulevard in Poughkeepsie.
Christos Catering in Poughkeepsie, New York
For Teddi and Nick’s September Christos Poughkeepsie wedding, they didn’t have the perfect weather all day long, but they definitely had lady luck on our side, because it held out just long enough for Teddi and Nick and I to get some great shots outside of Christos Poughkeepsie. In fact, I think we had just finished up with their wedding pictures when, what started as a hot and extremely humid day, broke into what felt more like a late October night, as dark and stormy clouds rolled in over the tree tops and a cold, quick, wind driven rain began to pound the pavement making us run or cover, quickly!
The Wedding Day All Over Again
Having been at and photographed more than 700 weddings in my career, I’ve been able to completely turn off any nerves that might rattle the cages of the less experienced wedding photographers, because having been to so many weddings, including my own in May 2012, I’ve seen and experienced everything there is to experience at a wedding. Having this much experience, I’ve learned that being realistic and honest with my clients about what to expect, actually has a calming effect. I generally never say to my clients that the wedding day is going to be perfect, or that everything will be fine and that noting will ever go wrong, because I’d be lying, but just as Teddi and Nick and I were able to get their photos done before it rained, you take the good with the bad and always in stride.
The truth of the matter that somewhere between the beginning and the end, something will happen that the bride did not want to happen.
Take for example Teddi, we were standing in the lobby at her Christos Poughkeepsie wedding located on Wilbur Boulevard, and we were talking about how the wedding day is full of expectations and perceptions. Teddi had actually been referring to the bad weather that was coming our way and I told her that if she views the bad weather as a day ruining event, than it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. I told her that everyone around her loves her and they would do anything for her, yet they are helpless to control the weather, as was she, and as was I. My advise to her, and to every bride, even my own, is that when your wedding day comes, embrace it, because it’s yours and no one elses; remember the real reason why you’re hear which is, because you fell in love with someone and the two of you decided to spend the rest of your lives together.
Then, only moments after Teddi and I were done having our pow wow, an embarrassing and total accident occurred when one of her brides maids spilled Champaign all over Teddi and her dress. (Insert Smiley Face) Lucky, there was zero damage to Teddi or her dress and Teddi and Nick still got married, and then danced their butts off with a couple hundred of their closest friends and family members to the beats of DJ Bill Beale.
As for Teddi, she’s a little bit wiser and left with a good story to tell her friends, her children and grandchildren when they get married. So it all works out!
